You Are An Experience is much more than just a film. It is living, breathing proof that progressive media can and will change the world for the better. As an artist, I fell in love with digital mediums from vector art to film to express my appreciation for the freedom it allows people. This film is an extension of my passion and scholarly research aiding the support of inclusivity in children’s media, with my thesis “The Perceived Influence Media and Memorable Messages has on LGB+ youth during their self discovery, coming out experiences, and in Understanding Sexuality.” This film explores an example of the freeing and expressive mediums I love. In it, viewers will hear powerful stories from fans of the Cartoon Network show Steven Universe and better understand how the LGBTQ+ community greatly benefits from shows and themes like those in the show, especially in children’s media. I hope this project inspires progress and can act as a catalyst for change in our world. That is my mission as a creative, to create art to inspire and facilitate hope and change.
